With the release of Grace Land, Australian photographer Nick Prideaux offers a visual and narrative work of deep intimacy, transforming personal trauma into a poetic reflection on memory and climate change. Produced by Whooden/Studios as part of the La Maison de la Chapelle residency program, Grace Land marks the first editorial release from the French institution’s artist residency program.

Created during Prideaux’s 2023 residency in the South of France, the book is a response to the grief caused by the loss of his childhood home, destroyed by a devastating flood in the autumn of 2022 in Northern New South Wales, Australia. More than just a document, Grace Land transforms private memory into a universal narrative of images, silences, and absences.

Through this photographic series, Nick Prideaux tells the story of two sisters and a brother confronting the destruction of the place that held thirty years of memories. His images, intimate and contemplative, reveal not only what was lost but also what remains: the fragility of bonds, the endurance of memory, the invisible erosion of everyday life. Each photograph vibrates with stillness and melancholy, evoking the space between what was and what will never return.
