Born and raised in Dubrovnik, Croatia, and now based in Zagreb, Olga Karlovac is an abstract expressionist photographer with a unique style. Olga manages to capture the passage of time in a single shot, is able to describe the actions, movements and pauses of the city and tells a lot about its inhabitants.
Her photographic style is emphatic, fascinating, poetic and emotional. Olga Karlovac uses few elements to create her photographs, but manages to create extremely dreamlike and fascinating works.
Shooting through window panes, using abstract reflections created by rain and setting long exposure times, Olga manages to totally distort shapes and create restless, fleeting, pictorial photographs.
Her subjects thus become suspended shapes, elongated silhouettes, ectoplasmic figures. Her portraits in black and white, with little light and rich contrasts, are symbolic works that reflect on existence and the human condition.
Olga Karlovac recounts the transformation of man through his movements, reveals his transience and describes his rebirth.
