Skins and Suedes is a project by Owen Harvey that explores the complex world of skinheads in the United Kingdom. There’s inspiration drawn from the Mod style and much more in the images shot by Harvey.

«Those who were part of the subculture had a strong working-class pride, a trait often recognized among both young white and black individuals growing up in various parts of England,» explains Harvey himself. The ongoing project, which started in 2015, showcases the distinctive looks of skinheads that were later adopted by various fascist groups.

Many of the original skinheads felt the need to abandon their style due to the negative association. However, some true skinheads refused to give up their style, which eventually led to a split within the subculture among those with differing political views.

The project is thus intended to tell the story of this subculture that has shaped British history and continues to inspire us. His portraits go beyond the surface, narrating a story filled with culture and dedication to this subculture.
