Ph.ocus – About Photography, the photographic exhibition by Paratissima

Paratissima, the Social Company born in 2005 with the aim of creating an exhibition space for emerging artists and creatives, is back again this year with a full program of events and divided into 4 appointments. The last of them is called Ph.ocus – About Photography, will be entirely dedicated to photography and will open next November 27th at the ARTiglieria Con/temporary Art Center in Turin.

WHEN:
27 NOV – 8 DEC
WHERE:
ARTiglieria Con/temporary Art Center – Piazzetta Accademia Militare, Turin

The ARTiglieria will host two exhibitions. The first, “Please, take care“, aims to investigate the role of photography today. In a historical period in which in a single day about 100 million images are shared on Instagram and even more are taken without being published, the question that arises is “What does “taking photography” mean today?
The answers to this question will be the shots of some emerging photographers who have been asked to investigate what they think deserves to be photographed.

The second exhibition, however, could not go without analyzing the period that we have been living for a few months now. “Please, stay home” will present the photographic projects born and realized at home, during the lockdown, a period in which, unexpectedly, despite the endless passing of days, all the same, we were able to find, or discover, a creativity that we would never have imagined.

Being so wide, this theme led to the birth of a special section, a sort of spin-off that took the name Quarantined.

We at Collater.al have always believed in the power of images to tell moods, historical moments and events related to current events, and we are happy to be media partners of Ph.ocus – About Photography.

Precisely for this reason, we will accompany you during this month that separates us from the opening of the exhibitions with a series of interviews with some of the photographers who participated in this project.

Stay tuned!

Martin Neuhof, an evocative photographer and portraitist

Martin Neuhof, an evocative photographer and portraitist

Federica Cimorelli · 4 days ago · Photography

Martin Neuhof, born in 1984, is a German photographer and portrait artist based in Leipzig, Germany. Martin followed in the footsteps of his grandfather Friedrich Gahlbeck, a well-known German photographer of the last century, then worked to afford a camera and began experimenting with images.

His photography is clear and elegant, it focuses on the human face and delves into the interiority of the subject he captures. For Martin Neuhof, the face is a gateway to human emotions, an obstacle to be overcome and a barrier to be broken.

His photographic compositions manage to break down all appearances, they are creative shots that highlight the protagonist of the image and meanwhile strike the viewer, provoke him and activate something in his inner self.

The dark and mysterious shots of Marit Beer

The dark and mysterious shots of Marit Beer

Collater.al Contributors · 3 days ago · Photography

The shots of Marit Beer are dark and mysterious, they tell stories of distant and unknown countries where it is cold, there is silence and the air is humid.

To enter her world you only need to look at her photographs: it seems to be in another reality, isolated, far from the confusion of civilization, among small unattended villages surrounded by wild countryside.

Looking at her shots is like reliving them, is like diving in an uncomfortable world of embroidery and lace, among old fabrics crumpled and faded by time. You can perceive her thoughts and anxieties: the passing of time, the weight of existence and the intimacy of secrets.

Her subjects are authentic but always seem to disappear, they are ghosts that never show themselves in their entirety, impenetrable, enigmatic and disturbing spirits.

The photographs of Marit Beer involve us and drag us away from reality, they are ancient paintings faded by time.

Follow her.

The mysterious photography of Joanne Leah

The mysterious photography of Joanne Leah

Giulia Pacciardi · 3 days ago · Photography

The Brooklyn artist Joanne Leah creates beautiful photographiy that bring the observer into a mysterious journey through her intellectual-surreal world.

Her intent is to examine the relationship between human form, objects, materials, and conventions, transforming each of them into something very different and far.

Using different color palettes, yellow, green, red and purple, she uses the human body as if it were a design element.

Her contents are all inspired by her childhood memories and explore issues such as isolation, detachment and identity.

Apparently violent, each image expresses a concept that, through her subconscious, come to life with an object or subject in tune with her visions.
