At 22 Rue Duperré in Paris, between the Moulin Rouge and Montmartre, stands one of the most beautiful basketball courts in the world. Since its inauguration in 2009, the Pigalle Duperré Court has become a true institution, attracting not only basketball enthusiasts but also admirers of art and design.
Since its opening, the court has changed its appearance five times. The first transformation was in collaboration with the Franco-Asian artist Yué “Nyno,” while for the next four, Stéphane Ashpool, curator and founder of the project, worked alongside ILL Studio.
Now, after the 2012, 2015, 2017, and 2020 versions, Stéphane Ashpool and ILL Studio have once again joined forces and unveiled the new DUPERRE to the citizens of the French capital and to the world.
Sharing the first pictures of the new Pigalle court, Ashpool explains how the new design features a composition of lines and colors that symbolize the diversity of cultures blending into one. This unity seems to have no end or boundaries, starting from the ground and continuing seamlessly onto the walls.
