Portraits of Superheroes by Benoit Lapray

Okay, you’re a superhero you always have a thousand commitments and if it’s not your number one enemy it’s the burning palace, the bank robbery, the chase with the drug dealers, the fast food employee peeing in the Coca-Cola and the old lady who lost her kitten, but five minutes to go take a little trip are never there?

In the series Portraits of Superheroes, Benoit Lapray has tried to imagine them, solitary and maybe even a bit romantic, but of that German and proud romanticism of Caspar David Friedrich. The French photographer takes them away from chaotic metropolises and plunges them into silent nature, to wander solitary between mountains and hills and streams.

And you can’t look at the images without a mocking smile and a hint of ironic ass-tapping. That in Spiderman sitting on the edge of a dirt road completely lonely a pantsuit we would all do. And Captain America posing by the sea would be to be taken with bars on his knees.

But enjoy this beautiful project, without taking yourself too seriously.
