The Stratified Street Art of Sys

There’s a precise, layered rhythm in Sys’s work—on Instagram @sys.420.olo—as if it were born directly from the city’s breath. On walls, in cables, in cracks in the asphalt, and in the marks left by time, the artist builds a visual language that moves between photography, collage, and a street sensibility. Their Instagram profile is an ever-evolving urban archive, where nothing is decorative and everything feels charged with memory.

The starting point is always real fragments: photographed walls, worn-out writing, marginal architectural details. Sys reassembles them into collages that don’t aim for harmony, but for tension. Each image works as a stratification of signs—an attempt to hold on to what the city tends to erase or render invisible. The result is a raw aesthetic, made of overlays and silences, that brings back the sense of an urban space that’s been lived in and passed through.

Berlin often returns as both backdrop and active presence, almost like a character. Its surfaces become narrative material: broken text, different alphabets, shadows, and walls that speak to a condition of constant transit. There’s no nostalgia—only a form of radical attention to the present and its traces.

More often than not, we see street art simplified into an iconic gesture or an immediate mural—and in this, Sys’s work moves in the opposite direction. It’s an act of curious observation, an invitation to read the city as an open text, made of fragments, errors, and memories that endure.
