The Link, the city of the future according to Luca Curci

Proof that architecture and topicality are extremely linked are the increasingly frequent projects of entire technologically advanced cities, with low environmental impact and totally autonomous. Some time ago we talked about the project of Stefano Boeri’s Smart Forest City, a green city developed on an area of 557 hectares. Today, instead, we present a project that, unlike Boeri’s, develops vertically: it’s called The Link, the vertical city designed by Italian architect Luca Curci and his studio.

The idea for The Link starts from the analysis of our way of life, of climate change and its increasingly devastating and visible effects, of the tendency to enlarge cities horizontally, creating ever larger, poorer suburbs, far from the center and forcing the inhabitants to take their cars to move every day. For this reason, Luca Curci thought to cancel all this by creating a vertical city where to live, work, and spend free time.

The Link consists of five structures, the highest, which with its 300 floors reaches a height of 1200 meters, will house all the apartments, while the other four, ranging from 650 to 850 meters high, will house offices, government departments, health facilities, educational institutions, schools and universities. In addition, the entire complex is designed to accommodate 1,200,000 square meters of green space that will include over 2 million plants. This vertical garden will transform carbon dioxide into oxygen, making the air cleaner, will use clean and renewable energy thanks to solar panels and renewable energy resources and an advanced technological system will be able to control the temperature, CO2 levels, humidity and lighting system of the city.

Finally, The Link’s structure will help social cohesion by eliminating the distance between poor and wealthy people.

The Link is not just a project for a city of the future, it is the basis for a new way of life, a new way of thinking about cities, transport and life.
