Breathing heavily, filling them with air before diving in and feeling the cold of the water envelop us. Swimming towards the bottom, getting away from the surface, from the shore, from problems, from stress. Thanks to Camille Robiou Du Pont‘s photographs, we can relive all this every day.
Camille Robiou Du Pont is a young French photographer who from 2012 to 2016 lived in Shanghai and then moved to the Philippines, where she still lives and works. It must have been the island she now calls home that inspired her in much of her work and helped her fine-tune her style.
Camille Robiou Du Pont specializes in underwater photography where the main subjects merge into one: young women dive into the immensity of the ocean, let themselves be overwhelmed by the blue and their naked bodies can finally rediscover their own beauty.
While they swim, Camille’s lens is ready to capture them and celebrate a femininity free from all restrictions.
The choice to frequently use black and white underlines and emphasizes this feeling of freedom: in the absence of the blue ocean, the girls stop swimming and start to fly as if they had been locked in a cage until then.
