Photography seems to have taken over our point of view. On social media, we are used to seeing pictures of laid tables and creative still lives are all the rage in the communication of so many brands. Illustrator Wenjing Yang is also fascinated by this aspect of our new visual culture, but she does it in her own very personal way. Hers in fact could be called an ‘alien vision’. The fluorescent colours, surreal shapes and chromatic intensity are capable of transforming the everyday into something beyond the ordinary. Wenjing’s imagery is indeed populated by creatures and objects that seem to emerge from alternative dimensions, visually rewriting new narratives.

One of the most interesting aspects of Wenjing Yang’s work is the use of colour. Each hue and shade is carefully chosen to enhance the narrative, evoking specific moods and allowing her illustrations to become true visual narratives. Her personal projects explore profound themes, even addressing an issue that is intimate to the artist, that of illness. But not only that, her work also reaches out to brands and magazines, winning over the Washington Post, Wired UK and Dasan Books. Find out more on her website.
