In recent years, the BBC’s creative team has earned an excellent reputation for producing stellar advertising campaigns that stimulate viewers in unexpected ways. Last year, we told you about the launch of the BBC-produced series “Dracula” for Netflix, which reveals astonishing details in the twilight.
Today we return to the subject to tell you about the creative agency’s latest advertising strategy, that for the series “A Perfect Planet” by David Attenborough.
A Perfect Planet consists of five episodes and premiered on 3 January 2021 on BBC One. The series is about the history of Planet Earth and features five major macro themes explored in detail: the power of volcanoes, the sun, the weather, oceans and humans. This fifth and final episode invites viewers to take a closer look at the impact of the world’s newest force of nature, humans and shows what can be done to restore balance to the planet.
The series has been out for a few weeks now, but the world is still a long way from being a perfect planet. So, to raise awareness of the impending global climate emergency, the BBC’s creative team and Talon Outdoor have destroyed their billboards with a new out-of-home campaign.
The posters from the launch of A Perfect Planet were hijacked from the inside, ripped apart, destroyed and set on fire (with an ecological steam engine) and revealed their hidden side. BBC turned fish into plastic bottles, a tree with a monkey into a burning forest and an animal’s coat into a barren river bed.
The hope is to carry on a concrete and constructive conversation about climate, devoting time and attention to the fragility of the earth and preserving natural wonders.
