In the heart of Mexicali, a border city between Mexico and the United States, the night takes on a different color. c, an analog photographer, knows it well. With his Canon AE-1 and Cinestill 800T film, he captures the daily life of his city, transforming it into a cinematic set suspended between melancholy and realism.

It was on Instagram that he discovered the nuances of Cinestill 800T, a film originally created for cinema but adapted for photography: artificial lights shifting to red, details enhanced by a soft grain, and that dreamy aura that turns the ordinary into something deeply human.

His shots feature crowded markets, neon signs, and restaurant interiors where life flows slowly but is rich with stories. César doesn’t seek the perfect pose, but the authentic moment: a man smoking outside a venue, the counter of a taquería, reflections on the windows of a night bus. It’s an intimate and sincere visual narrative of urban Mexico, far from stereotypes, made up of details, routines, and light filtered through streetlamps.

His Instagram profile is a stream of images that resemble frames from a film that hasn’t been made yet, but that we could all recognize. There’s something familiar and at the same time exotic in his photos: a shared nostalgia, even for those who have never seen Mexicali.

César Adrián photographs out of need, to document, to remember. And in doing so, he gives us an honest glimpse of a corner of the world often overlooked, proving that even everyday life, when seen through the right eyes, can be profoundly cinematic.
