Painting still lifes for Drew Englander is not an easy way to represent reality but to put on canvas a feeling with respect to reality, namely that everything around us is in essence fluid. The impossibility of finding an objective and rigid point of view is an invitation to look with lightness and constant curiosity at what surrounds us. To do so, Drew Englander is as if he chooses to float everything real around him on a body of water, with the objects beginning to lose a definite shape following rather an unpredictable instinct.
Water is also represented by the U.S. artist figuratively. He paints it as it gushes from a shower head or inside a vase nourishing bouquets of flowers. The everydayness and familiarity of the scenes depicted-primarily with the airbrush-are strangely somber, due perhaps to the distorted shapes that make everything uncertain and in some cases so distort the shape of some common objects as to prevent their recognition.

Other subjects Englander brings to his works include elements that accompany his everyday life such as musical instruments-the keyboard in particular, everyday electronic devices and screens broadcasting sporting events.
The photographic slant of the works derives mainly from two great passions of the artist: the first is that for comic books and the second is that for impressionist art, from which he also takes the use of color and its glazes.
