First of the Roll, the random beauty of burnt photos

First of the Roll, the random beauty of burnt photos

Giulia Guido · 10 months ago · Photography

Those of my generation maybe still remember it, the younger ones most likely not, how to load an analog camera, how to handle a roll. Taking a picture was also that, they were all gestures that preceded the click. The golden rule was one, that is, to take one or two empty shots, shots that we would never have developed, fragments of reality literally burned, incomplete.

Someone, however, thought to take all these first “wrong” shots and collect them in the Instagram account First of the Roll, whose bio rightly mentions “Account dedicated to the first frame of a 35mm roll.”

Inception of Desire, everyday objects become conceptual art

Inception of Desire, everyday objects become conceptual art

Giulia Guido · 10 months ago · Photography

A wallet, a computer, a carton of McDonald’s chips. With the photo series entitled Inception of Desire, Korean photographer Claire Lee has taken everyday objects and made them pieces of art. Playing with backgrounds of the same tone as the objects, with lights and shadows and, above all, with shapes and lines, Claire seems to have managed to ennoble common things that we all have.

Not the first time that the 1993 photographer worked with these subjects, even in the previous series Domestic Calculus had immortalized a book, a brush, a glass, in short nothing extraordinary.

Claire’s skill and talent is to see in something accessible to all new, unpublished and surprisingly beautiful aspects and to be able to capture them in a shot.

Romance, falling in love according to Jean Pierrot

Romance, falling in love according to Jean Pierrot

Claudia Fuggetti · 10 months ago · Photography

What is the first photographic book by the Slovenian photographer Jean Pierrot about? Romance, this is the title of the project, represents a visual reflection on the theme of falling in love with an aesthetic and nostalgic poetics.

Jean’s analogs represent sensual portraits and delicate close-ups that have the task of “demystifying an intimate process that we all unwittingly undertake at least once”, or being in love. Although his work is very aesthetic, the artist tries in some way to get closer to give a rational explanation to what, simply, can not be entirely divided and dissected in an analytical way.

You can buy Romance’s self-produced publication here.

It’s Called Ffasiwn, creativity takes shape

It’s Called Ffasiwn, creativity takes shape

Claudia Fuggetti · 10 months ago · Photography

It’s Called Ffasiwn, is the Welsh name of the artistic project of photographer ClĂ©mentine Schneidermann and art director Charlotte James, of the children of the valleys of South Wales, consisting of portraits of children from South Wales.

The two artists organized creative workshops in youth centers where participants were taught the basics of fashion styling, design and tailoring, in order to encourage them to experiment with garments purchased in charity stores.

This is how the photographic project was born, which is characterized by an accurate composition, made harmonious by colors, combinations and precision.

“The photographs show that while the Valleys wear the marks of time, they’re no match for the elixir and hope of a new generation: the project is a celebration of this”.

It’s Called Ffasiwn’ will be on display until 25 May 2019, at the Martin Parr Foundation, Bristol.

Noémi Ottilia Szabo: imperfection is uniqueness

Noémi Ottilia Szabo: imperfection is uniqueness

Claudia Fuggetti · 10 months ago · Photography

NoĂ©mi Ottilia Szabo is a Swiss fashion photographer who has published her work in several magazines including Vogue Portugal, Cake Magazine, L’Officiel Ukraine and others.

On more than one occasion the photographer has said what is important to her:

“Perfection is ugly – I want to see scars, failure, disorder, distortion. My main source of inspiration is my model, the light, the location I’m shooting in. It’s different on every shoot”.

Each project takes on a different look, depending on the situation and context in which it was set, but the common element in all its images is to recreate a soft atmosphere, which touches the subjects with light.
