Born in 1998, Francisco Narciso is a Portuguese photographer who, despite his young age, is already very clear about his style and what he wants to say with his shots.
Francisco’s passion for photography did not come about immediately: as a child, he would watch his father take photographs, occasionally acting as a model, but for the rest, he would concentrate on his studies, convinced that he wanted to study biology.
However, the more time passed, the more Francisco lost interest in these subjects and it was only at this point that photography proved to be the right path.
So in 2016 he began his studies in photography and visual culture in Lisbon, also studying in Berlin, Leeds and spending a short time in London. Four years may not seem like a long time, but Francisco Narciso has made the most of it and the results can be seen in his projects.
His photography, for the time being exclusively analogue, focuses entirely on the human figure: through his own body or that of models, the photographer wants to convey his feelings, but also his point of view on different topics.
This focus can be found both in commissioned works, such as the shots taken for Vogue Portugal or for the AW2021 collection of Fairly Normal, but also in his personal projects.
Among these, Plastic is definitely worth mentioning: the theme is pollution and the project includes both shots, in which we see a model in a room where everything is made of or covered in plastic, but also a video that leaves us with some hope.
Another noteworthy work is undoubtedly [Trans]action: a series of 22 self-portraits showing the aesthetic change of a man when he changes his appearance to become a woman.
“More than a self-portrait project, this is a self-awareness project. I simulated a gender duality experience in order to better understand the barriers I impose on myself. Breaking with dichotomies is my life and photographic project”.
