Daniel Popper is a Cape Town-based multidisciplinary artist known worldwide for his spectacular sculptures and public art installations. Human+Nature is his newest exhibition, the largest to date, set among the trees of Morton Arboretum, the 1700-acre public garden in Lisle, Illinois.
Human+Nature consists of five sculptures made of wood, concrete, fibreglass and steel, five imposing female figures built on a monumental scale, weighing several tons and standing 26 feet tall. To create them, Daniel Popper explored new techniques by working with 3D modelling and experimenting with new materials and processes.
The works pay homage to the resilience and diversity of nature and invite guests to reimagine their relationship with their surroundings. Each sculpture connects people to the natural world in a different way, to the trees of the Morton Arboretum and to the benefits of the outdoors.
