Illustrated Interview – The universality of Antonio Sortino’s illustrations

Sometimes, my search for artists for the Illustrated Interview column leads me to works that are not very noteworthy, but other times, with infinite surprise, I land on sites and pages of illustrators that I would look at and scroll through for hours and hours. This is what happened to me with Antonio Sortino and his illustrations, among which I still can’t decide which one is my favorite.

Born in 1986, Antonio was born in Ragusa and the first part of his youth led him to everything, such as a degree in Pharmacy, except illustration. His career, and with it his life, changed when he decided to enroll in the MiMaster in Illustration in Milan, the city where he lives and works today.

I would define his illustrations, made half by hand and half digitally using Photoshop, universal, adaptable to any context and any subject. Never excessive, with simple shapes and balanced colors, his works have led him to collaborate both with national clients, such as la Repubblica or Il Sole 24 Ore, but also with international newspapers of the caliber of the New Yorker and the New York Times.
