The Small Stakes is Jason Munn, exactly like, musically speaking, Mark Everett is the Eels, Marc Linkous was the Sparklehorse, Trent Reznor is the Nine Inch Nails.
Combining the love for indie music and that for illustration and advertising, after his artistic studies and a classic period of hunger and deprivation, he began to produce posters for the shows of bands unknown at that time: Animal Collective, Why ?, Damien Jurado.
Influenced by the album cover graphics, and in particular by the work done by Jeff Kleinsmith at Sub Pop in the nineties, and also by skateboard graphics, he develops a synthetic and acute style, soon becoming a reference point for the independent music scene.
In 2003 he started The Small Stakes studio, starting to produce full-time posters. Among his clients there are bands like Wilco, Nada Surf, Feist, Death Cab for Cutie, Modest Mouse, Beck, Liars, Spoon, Built to Spill and then the New York Times Magazine, Random House Publishing, Wired Magazine.
Some of his works are part of the permanent collection at the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art.
Listen to it with your eyes.
