A debate has always governed the world of art: reality or fantasy?
Both fronts have brave warriors, but this battle does not foresee, nor has it ever predicted, winners and losers; it changes the style, but not the urgency of the artistic expression. There are also those who, however, are able to unite these two aspects, creating a third one: in this case, we are talking about Slava Thisset.
Russian photographer and graphic designer, Slava describes himself as a visual scientist: combining both arts, he creates unexplored and fluorescent worlds. A third dimension, made of realistic forms and surreal aesthetics, comes to life. Because of the neon lights and their saturation, his works seem to belong to an extraterrestrial reality. This feeling is combined with the vision of the artist, who perceives that he is the Earthman among aliens.
His subjects are usually models, mostly females, but he dedicated an entire project to rain. In particular to puddles, to be exact. Influenced by the streets of his city – Sochi -, Slava Thisset was fascinated by the neon lights reflected in the water. The more he looked at them, the more he seemed to enter another dimension.
Thanks to the combination of photography and post production, everyday life has become extraordinary. Even the most common things in the world, like a puddle, have taken on the charm of exception. A result obtained from both reality and fantasy.
If you feel that this world does not belong to you, you should suspend the rules too. Let be astonished, by this universe and by Slava one too.
